ping and traceroute works, but other traffic times out
[dk] Shadow Hawkins on Tuesday, 28 December 2010 19:43:23
I've set up my tunnel and subnet on my Apple Time Capsule and I've configured IPv6 on my laptop but I'm unable to use IPv6. It seems that ICMP6 is working as it should, but all other traffic is failing. I'm able to ping and traceroute IPv6 hosts, but I can't telnet or see websites in my browsers: Tunnel ID: T48973 Subnet: 2a02:980:1009::/48 # Ping to ipv6.sixxs.net Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ ping6 -c 5 ipv6.sixxs.net PING6(56=40+8+8 bytes) 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85 --> 2001:838:2:1::30:67 16 bytes from 2001:838:2:1::30:67, icmp_seq=0 hlim=54 time=70.923 ms 16 bytes from 2001:838:2:1::30:67, icmp_seq=1 hlim=54 time=70.569 ms 16 bytes from 2001:838:2:1::30:67, icmp_seq=2 hlim=54 time=72.056 ms 16 bytes from 2001:838:2:1::30:67, icmp_seq=3 hlim=54 time=72.200 ms 16 bytes from 2001:838:2:1::30:67, icmp_seq=4 hlim=54 time=71.637 ms --- ipv6.sixxs.net ping6 statistics --- 5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 70.569/71.477/72.200/0.635 ms # Traceroute to ipv6.sixxs.net Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ traceroute6 ipv6.sixxs.net traceroute6: Warning: ipv6.sixxs.net has multiple addresses; using 2001:838:2:1::30:67 traceroute6 to ipv6.sixxs.net (2001:838:2:1::30:67) from 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85, 64 hops max, 12 byte packets 1 2a02:980:1009::6233:4bff:fe2e:326b 1.033 ms 0.785 ms 0.746 ms 2 2a02:980:1000:12::1 25.214 ms 24.482 ms 24.641 ms 3 2a02:980:1:1::1 24.737 ms 25.180 ms 24.474 ms 4 2a02:980:0:4::2 35.450 ms 29.244 ms 28.299 ms 5 2a02:980:0:5::2 29.895 ms 35.239 ms 32.274 ms 6 2001:6c8:81:100::1d 29.727 ms 36.850 ms 32.169 ms 7 * * * 8 10gigabitethernet1-2.core1.sto1.he.net 43.600 ms 44.544 ms 50.020 ms 9 10gigabitethernet3-3.core1.fra1.he.net 75.970 ms 71.925 ms 75.313 ms 10 10gigabitethernet1-4.core1.ams1.he.net 74.692 ms 73.327 ms 74.744 ms 11 ams-ix.ipv6.concepts.nl 74.325 ms 68.850 ms 69.179 ms 12 2001:838:5:a::2 72.484 ms 71.972 ms 71.277 ms 13 gatey.sixxs.net 72.301 ms 73.979 ms 74.514 ms # Traceroute to my POP traceroute6 to 2a02:980:1000:12::1 (2a02:980:1000:12::1) from 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85, 64 hops max, 12 byte packets 1 2a02:980:1009::6233:4bff:fe2e:326b 1.201 ms 1.020 ms 0.932 ms 2 2a02:980:1000:12::1 24.142 ms 24.813 ms 24.776 ms # uname output Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ uname -a Darwin Snowwhite.local 10.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.5.0: Fri Nov 5 23:20:39 PDT 2010; root:xnu-1504.9.17~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 # ifconfig output Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ ifconfig en1 en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 ether 00:1e:52:7d:bd:85 inet6 fe80::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet 192.168.1.3 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255 inet6 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85 prefixlen 64 autoconf media: autoselect status: active It seems that I'm not the only user having this kind of problem: https://www.sixxs.net/forum/?msg=setup-3281305 Best regards Morten Jensen (MJU7-SIXXS)

ping and traceroute works, but other traffic times out
[dk] Shadow Hawkins on Wednesday, 29 December 2010 20:35:49
I did. But here goes again: * Always include clear descriptive information about your problem or inquiry. I've configured my tunnel (T48973) on my Apple Time Capsule (ATC), I've setup my subnet and the ATC autoconfigures hosts on my local network with IPv6 addresses. When I ping or traceroute ipv6.google.com it works, but I can't access ipv6.google.com or any other site using a browser or using telnet to port 80. The connection times out. The same happens if I try to access other IPv6 enabled hosts with anything other than ping and traceroute. I've tried configuring a Hurricane Electric (HE) tunnel in the same way, and I had full IPv6 connectivity. So, somehow it seems there's a difference between HE and SixXS that gives me problems. * Always provide your NIC handle and if applicable the Tunnel or Route IDs you wish to discuss. NIC Handle: MJU7-SIXXS Tunnel ID: T48973 Subnet: R21701 * Provide details of the setup, type of connections, where NATs are located. Apple Time Capsule acting as wireless router connected to Zyxel DSL-modem in bridging mode. ATC is configured with static public IPv4 90.185.22.12 on the WAN and the SixXS-tunnel to the dkcph02 POP: IPv6 WAN: 2a02:980:1000:12::2 IPv6 default route: 2a02:980:1000:12::1 IPv6 LAN: 2a02:980:1009::6233:4bff:fe2e:326b ATC is doing IPv4 NAT. Computer is connected to wireless network and receives DHCP IPv4 and autoconfigured IPv6. * Provide information of your OS type, version and release (ie. uname -a), noting also the distribution name. Apple Time Capsule, running firmware 7.5.2 Macbook laptop, running Mac OS X 10.6.5, Darwin Snowwhite.local 10.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.5.0: Fri Nov 5 23:20:39 PDT 2010; root:xnu-1504.9.17~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 * Include full interface, routing and firewall tables. Snowwhite:~ maaboe$ ifconfig en1 en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 ether 00:1e:52:7d:bd:85 inet6 fe80::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet 192.168.1.3 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255 inet6 2a02:980:1009::21e:52ff:fe7d:bd85 prefixlen 64 autoconf media: autoselect status: active Routing table Firewalling is disabled on the Time Capsule. ipfw rules on computer: Snowwhite:~ root# ipfw list 65535 allow ip from any to any * Include a IPv4 and IPv6 traceroute to the PoP in question. I can only assume that 'snowwhite' is your client, thus what are the routing tables on your gateway node? And especially the tunnel configuration?
en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1280
Why do you have an Ethernet with an MTU of 1280 bytes? That normally is 1500 bytes. The tunnel is most very likely 1280
+ tcpdump
tcpdump
What is this tcpdump supposed to illustrate? I don't see any TCP interaction (which is the thing that is breaking according to you). Also, if possible please provide the raw pcap (-w) as that provides a lot more details than -X. At the moment 2a02:980:1000:12::2 does not even answer ping requests and I think that your host is not even up from what I can tell.

Ok i have done some more testing and debugged with our upstream provider (TDC) and it turned out it was a to agressive peering filter. Service should be operating again. /lbl - Fullrate A/S
