Cannot ping (IPv4) PoP
[ch] Shadow Hawkins on Wednesday, 21 April 2010 21:47:18
Hi, since two days, my tunnel (T24807) does not work any more. Running "aiccu test", I discovered that I could not ping (IPv4) my PoP. I enabled the "verbose" option in aiccu.conf and verified that I am using the correct IPv4-Adress of my PoP: ... Apr 21 21:34:31 alix aiccu: sock_getline() : "POP Id: chzrh01" Apr 21 21:34:31 alix aiccu: sock_getline() : "IPv4 Endpoint: heartbeat" Apr 21 21:34:31 alix aiccu: sock_getline() : "IPv4 POP: 194.1.163.40" ... This IPv4 adress is neither pingable from my internet router, nor from various traceroute sites on the net: My (debian) box: alix:/usr/local/bin# traceroute -I 194.1.163.40 traceroute to 194.1.163.40 (194.1.163.40), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 lns1-l-1.solnet.ch (212.101.1.243) 10.198 ms 11.421 ms 13.329 ms 2 eq1zrh-gsh03-v502.solnet.ch (212.101.3.37) 16.534 ms 18.124 ms 20.041 ms 3 zurich-t-xmr1-v2.solnet.ch (212.101.0.234) 20.229 ms 21.918 ms 23.543 ms 4 * * * ... 30 * * * SWITCH: (http://www.switch.ch/de/network/tools/traceroute/) traceroute to 194.1.163.40 (194.1.163.40), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 swiCS5-V108.switch.ch (130.59.108.5) 0.290 ms 0.350 ms 0.407 ms 2 swiCS3-10GE-1-3.switch.ch (130.59.15.189) 0.331 ms 0.394 ms 0.584 ms 3 swiEZ2-10GE-5-2.switch.ch (130.59.36.18) 0.279 ms 0.287 ms 0.342 ms 4 swiIX2-10GE-3-1.switch.ch (130.59.36.250) 0.337 ms 0.347 ms 0.376 ms 5 i79tix-025-ten9-1.bb.ip-plus.net (164.128.22.129) 0.603 ms 0.723 ms 0.811 ms 6 te-4-2.car1.Zurich1.Level3.net (213.242.67.65) 49.267 ms 48.106 ms 46.223 ms 7 * * * ... 30 * * * Is this a problem with this PoP or do I have to follow this up with my provider (solnet)? I already received an answer from my provider Solnet. First the original erman version for reference, then my translation.

Do you from SIXXS follow this up with IP-Man or should I contact them directly? Regards

We handle all and any communications with the PoP provider. SixXS users are SixXS users, not users of the ISP that provides the PoP (indirectly yes, but that would be also stating that you are then a user of all the IX's that the internet goes over etc, which is also not the case).
