ICMP echo requests
[be] Carmen Sandiego on Thursday, 08 May 2003 00:54:46
I'm looking in to blocking ICMP echo requests on IPv4, but I need to know what IP(s) from SixXS (if any) I need to let through so that it can ping me. I guess I only need to let my PoP's IPv4 address through, right? Or is it only tested by ICMPv6? Or do I need to allow other SixXS IPv4 addresses as well? And btw, which address (IPv6) pings my tunnel endpoint (in case I'd want to block ICMP on IPv6 too ;)).

Any reason whatsoever from trying to hide yourself from the internet is a bad one. And if you say 'security' then you mean security through obscurity.

If you do't run any services it's kinda stupid to respond to ping, isn't it?

I think tcpdump should be sufficient to answer your question :)
