Multicast stream available in SixXS ? (test)
[be] Shadow Hawkins on Sunday, 02 March 2008 22:15:24
Hi All, Is there a working multicast stream somewhere in SixXS for testing a mrd6 configuration ? I tried frequence3 (udp://@[ff1e::8888]:8888) without success ? is it an issue in my mrd6 configuration or the stream is not anymore multicasted ? I'm using the bebru1 pop that looks like to send PIM messages. Thanks for any info. adulau

According to SixXS FAQ, you can only receive a stream via multicast capable PoP. ecmh does not allow to register multicast source to the PIMv6 RP (since ecmh supports MLD only, not PIMv6). If you run mrd6, it will pass PIM register messages from a source to the RP (since they are unicast encapsulated), but either PIM join or prune will be dropped by PoP's ecmh. And for receiving, since ecmh would be unaware of receivers behind mrd6 (not getting MLD report), it will not forward multicast traffic towards them. As long PoPs do not support PIMv6, multicast on SixXS is unidirectional, at best ;) bye

regarding to the "new" multicast FAQ
multicast is send/receive inside the ecmh cloud.
