How long does it take to delete a tunnel?
[nl] Carmen Sandiego on Monday, 21 July 2003 14:50:54
Hi, I deleted my tunnel using the web interface, but now I can't create a new tunnel because it says I already have one. My old tunnel has 'deletion requested' as state, and does not function anymore. Any idea how long this will take ?

Deletion of a tunnel is permanent and it will stay in that state. This overcomes the problem where troublemakers hop IP space and also overcomes the problem that the address space for the deleted tunnel is not returned.

Only allowing combinations of PoP and IP that haven't been used before will stop troublemakers hopping every week too, while still allowing normal users to switch to another PoP. So does requiring a large number of credits. The current system seems to be designed to prevent IPng users from switching to better PoPs. Many users chose IPng when the other PoPs didn't exist yet. They do now, and offer a better service. (proper DNS delegation, RIPE space) It doesn't make sense that those longtime IPv6 users cannot choose the PoP they like, while new users can.

Indeed, you even may take 100 credits for it if you like.

But how can I switch to another PoP then?

I deleted my tunnel, to be able to switch to another PoP. But If it stays in deletion requested state, it's impossible to create a new one. So the question is again, do we have to delete our accounts and reregister to switch PoP?

That's exactly what has been told before a couple of times and also what is noted when you delete them: it's irreversable.

Will deleting my account and creating a new one be sufficient then ?
