Can I switch from RIPE to ARIN? Is it needed?

Is it possible for me to switch from RIPE to ARIN? I just realized RIPE is supposed to be for europe and ARIN is supposed to be for america. I would also like to to be reconized in an american registry instead, as I am american.
Can I switch from RIPE to ARIN? Is it needed?

Since I recently changed from 6bone to ripe, I guess changing from ripe to arin wouldn't be a problem. Just register and send an email to the sixxs staff requesting an update of your account.
Is it needed? I really don't know.
