Comodo anti-virus download over IPv6
[gb] Shadow Hawkins on Saturday, 05 October 2013 11:20:37
Can anybody else download Comodo AV Free version over IPv6? Going to http://antivirus.comodo.com/ and selecting to download the free version just hangs for me over IPv6. When I have had it installed in the past it wouldn't update over IPv6 either. There is some discussion on the subject on Comodo forums, but they don't appear to work over IPv6 either! http://forums.comodo.com/report-comodo-forum-web-site-issues/comodo-download-via-ipv6-fails-t93116.0.html What I'm not sure is, if it's a specific problem to some users (e.g. my PoP), or a general IPv6 issue (and then, at what end).

As such the URL is: http://downloads.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/1000/partners/cav_installer_3264_29.exe Thus lets check if that has IPv6:
jeroen@noc:~$ host -t aaaa downloads.comodo.com downloads.comodo.com has IPv6 address 2a02:1788:4fd::b2ff:5201
Yep. Lets check the MTU (as you state it 'hangs':
jeroen@noc:~$ tracepath6 2a02:1788:4fd::b2ff:5201 1?: [LOCALHOST] 0.045ms pmtu 1500 1: ge-1-3-0.breda.ipv6.concepts-ict.net 0.804ms 1: ge-1-3-0.breda.ipv6.concepts-ict.net 0.741ms 2: 2001:838:5:11::2 0.809ms asymm 1 3: gi2-11.nikhef.ipv6.concepts-ict.net 2.436ms asymm 2 4: 2a02:d28:5580:e:1000::171 4.604ms asymm 3 5: eth1-1.core1.ams1.nl.atrato.net 2.383ms asymm 4 6: eth1-3.core1.lon2.uk.atrato.net 7.585ms asymm 5 7: eth1-1.core1.lon1.uk.atrato.net 7.752ms asymm 6 8: xe-8-1-2-2401.edge5.London1.Level3.net 7.788ms asymm 7 9: vl-52.car3.London1.Level3.net 8.643ms asymm 8 10: Internet-Connections-Ltd.car3.London1.Level3.net 11.251ms asymm 7 11: 2a01:3f8:0:d::2 18.761ms asymm 8 12: 2a01:3f8:0:107::2 18.164ms asymm 10 13: ge-2-0-20-14.tyrion.brad.office.ccanet.co.uk 24.465ms asymm 8 14: ge-1-0-6-5.h6edccrt.hex67.lon.edge.ccanet.co.uk 20.508ms asymm 9 15: 2001:450:2002:445::2 20.312ms pmtu 1480 15: ge-1-0-6-5.h6edccrt.hex67.lon.edge.ccanet.co.uk 19.788ms asymm 9 16: downloads.comodo.com 17.369ms reached Resume: pmtu 1480 hops 16 back 55
Seem to be a 'clear' traceroute, all hops respond. One interesting thing though is that hop 15 is double and one of them answers with an MTU of 1480. But in theory it should work (and from my connection here it does).

I ran the same commands and get similar successful results. I get this issue on several computers - but they are all Windows (browser seems irrelevant). I then tried to 'wget' it from a Linux box and it came down fine - and again from Firefox on Linux. I conclude from this that it is something to do with the networking for my Windows PCs, but I am not entirely sure what could be causing these issues as no other IPv6 sites seem to be affected. But at least this answers my question whether it is a general thing or a me-specific issue. Thanks for your assistance.

Well... it was working. I fired up Wireshark to see if I can see anything glaring obvious between Windows and Linux and the Linux one has stopped connect too.

And to continue with the forum spam - it appears an adjustment to radvd to advertise the correct MTU of 1280 to other IPv6 clients seems to have resolved the issue. My fault.

Similar is not the same and the little difference might be the key of the problem.
But at least this answers my question whether it is a general thing or a me-specific issue.
PathMTU issues can be caused by a variety of problems.
