tunnel goes down when there is no traffic
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:37:22
Hi,.. i'm running a heartbeat tunnel with aiccu for months without any problems. Now i notice, that the tunnel seems to go offline, when there is no traffic on the interface and as a result the subnet behind is not reachable. If i do a single ping from the inside to a external ipv6 address, the local subnet becomes reachable from the outside again. I'm not sure if the last update to "aiccu-2007.01.15-5.fc8" is the reason for that behavior. Where else can i look to change this behavior? Another aiccu tunnel configured for AYIYA stay up fine, even without any traffic. thanks best regards

See the FAQ: My tunnel goes down after some idletime. My tunnelendpoint also is a NAT/Connection Tracker for the answer to this problem. AYIYA is not affected (quickly) by this bug as it includes a heartbeat, thus it sends a packet to keep the connection alive.
