Upcoming KDE4 will always default to IPv4
![]()
Hello everyone,
FYI, I just learned that Qt4 and thus the entire KDE4 desktop environment tries IPv4 before IPv6 regardless of the order your local getaddrinfo() call returns the addresses. This behaviour is unconfigurable and unchangeable except by patching the sourcecode.
I've filed a bugreport at Ubuntu (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11/+bug/182398) and Trolltech (not public unfortunately), if anyone has decent contacts at KDE and/or Trolltech I'd appreciate some discussion.

http://trolltech.com/developer/task-tracker/index_html?method=entry&id=194539 says it is fixed, but not in which release.

Or *how* they fixed it.... they probably just disable all IPv6 support.

They bluntly rejected it first ("IPv6 is always broken and we are expected to prefer IPv4"), but reopened the case after I complained (and asked a few IRC inhabitants to do the same).
I've sent an inquiry to them asking for details.

Trolltech replied, basically they removed any reordering. No information (yet) about the expected release date.
