IPv6 DNS resolution has at least two aspects to consider. One is the resolution of host names to IPv6 addresses, usually in the form of AAAA records which may or may not be supported by a particular DNS server or client. The other is transport--whether the resolution occurs over IPv4 or IPv6 or a mixture of both. The combination of the aspects may create nonobvious problems resulting from IPv6-apathetic DNS caches or missing IPv6 glue records.
