SixXS

IPv6 Only BitTorrent Tracker and Distribution Service

This service provides an IPv6 Only BitTorrent Tracker service. But with a twist: SixXS also provides an upload service and provides a number of well connected hosts that will automatically accept the file and thus seed the torrent, thus making sure that the file is available and of course can be downloaded from a swarm containing a couple of really fast hosts.

See the Catalog for what files are currently available or use the ATOM or RSS Feeds to automatically have the list in your BitTorrent Client.

Status

This service is currently still in BETA status. If you encounter any problems, don't hesitate to contact us.

At the moment submissions can be made to the catalog and the ATOM and RSS feeds are operational. There are a seeds already available for you to peruse. When you are logged in, you can see how which peers are participating in a swarm for a certain torrent.

The SuperSeeders are not active for all submissions and will not yet automatically pick up new submissions. Submissions that are added to the catalog will be added manually to the superseeders, thus might take some time. Statistics are currently not updated. The focus is now on finishing the superseeder.

Downloading

BitTorrent Logo

Downloading files can be done by any IPv6 capable BitTorrent Client. One does not have to be registered with SixXS to be able to use this service. Just proceed to the Catalog and start downloading! See the IPv6 BitTorrent Clients page for clients which can be used for this service.

If you don't have IPv6 connectivity, then take a look at the 10 Steps FAQ.

Submitting new files to the Catalog

All registered SixXS users have the possiblity to add files to the Catalog. There are two methods to get a file into the system:

  • Download from FTP or HTTP: Any http or ftp url is accepted, with or without password. This method allows public files to be made converted in a .torrent. One provides the full URL of the original file and the system will retrieve the file from that location and create a torrent, publishing it in the Catalog. This method allows anybody to torrentify content that is publically available on the Internet.
  • Uploading to FTP. This is a method which we will be providing also at a point in time. This method allows any user to provide their self created files without having to publish them first to another service. This would allow home users to upload large files without problems. (Currently this method is unavailable)

When the file is fully cached by the system, it appears in the public catalog, available for download. Do note that the uploaders identity is fully disclosed. As such do not upload any copyright infringing files. When the file is in the Public Domain or protected with a suitable license one can submit it of course. The submission system requires one to specify the license of the file.

Why is the Tracker IPv6 Only?

We hope to provide a cool service which is only available to IPv6 users. Next to that, as IPv6 is truly end-to-end, no issues like NATs come in the way. This thus avoids all the problems with NATs, uPNP, NAT-PMP and all other confusing setups. One also does not have to forward ports any more thus making it much easier to use BitTorrent.
